Credit Requirements

Course Requirements

During the second semester of each year, students select courses for the subsequent school year as part of the registration process. Enrollment in any course is contingent upon the student’s fulfillment of prerequisites, departmental approval, and final authorization. Every effort is made to place each student in courses that are best suited for her.

Parents, teachers, and guidance counselors are consulted during the registration process to ensure appropriate placement. Ordinarily, a student will not be permitted to change her course selections after the registration process has concluded. Permission to change either the course selection sheet or the student’s schedule will be granted upon the guidance counselor/teacher’s recommendation, provided the student’s parent has submitted a written request outlining the rationale for the change.

Subject Area Credits

Diplomas are awarded to those students who have successfully completed at least 135 credits of study in the following areas: English – 20; World Language (French/Italian/Latin/Spanish) – 10; Mathematics – 15; Physical Education – 7.5; Theology – 20; Science – 15; Social Studies – 15; Electives – 32.5.

Graduation Requirements

All students will register for no fewer than the designated credits for the respective year. Courses should be planned with the following considerations: fulfillment of basic requirements, academic strengths, future career, and preference. In addition to subject area curriculum, Immaculate Heart Academy requires students to be involved in Christian Service activities. Each student must complete a prescribed number of Christian Service hours each year.
