Health Services

At Immaculate Heart Academy, the medical staff believes that a student's overall health contributes to her success in school. Services and support are provided to ensure the physical and emotional health of each student. Health services at IHA are provided by the school nurse in collaboration with the school physician, Dr. J.C. Mendler. See below for the current Health Office Policies and Procedures:

Health Office General Information:
  • The nurse is available to see students as needed for illness, injuries, and medical concerns
  • Any student who is feeling ill during the school day should report to the Health Office. If she is too ill to remain in school, a parent will get a call directly from the nurse and she will be dismissed from the Health Office. As a reminder, calls, texts, or emails sent from a student directly to you for pick up from school are unexcused absences. An ill student is always allowed to call and speak with her parents from the Health Office if she would like.
  • If a student is sick, she should stay home. She must be fever free for 24 hours (without the use of medication) in order to return to school. Please provide any doctor’s notes to the office upon returning to school. For COVID-19 specific details, please click here.
  • Doctor’s notes are required for an absence to be considered excused. Please see IHA's Student Handbook for more information on the school's Absence Policy.
  • Every student must submit a physical exam between May 1 and Labor Day each year.
  • IHA provides NJ mandated health screenings including height, weight, blood pressure, vision, hearing, and scoliosis. Typically, the height, weight, and blood pressure are part of your child's annual physical and will fulfill the requirement. Additional screenings are generally performed as follows:
    • Grade 9 -  Scoliosis
    • Grade 10 - Vision
    • Grade 11 - Hearing and Scoliosis
