Students Receive Quarter 1 NHS Awards

Kathryn Samarro’17 is honored with the Character award. Katey has been a three-year varsity soccer player at IHA. Her leadership skills, friendliness, and love for the team led to her appointment of captain during her senior season. In the classroom, Katey is not only attentive and has a drive to learn, but, most importantly, she loves to help her fellow classmates. Katey is full of life in class and is always sporting a smile. She is loved by her classmates and teachers alike. Katey’s character is above and beyond what is expected from a member of the National Honor Society. She has benefitted the IHA community with her gifts and talents all throughout her high school career. A great character is not something that can be easily explained, but rather lived out and proved through actions—Katey lives that out every day. Katey is committed to play Division 1 soccer at Marist College next year. We wish her the best of luck!

Cara Valencia’17 is honored with the award for Scholarship. Cara has been a Distinguished Honor Roll student since her freshman year at IHA despite her rigorous courses, which consist of AP and Honors classes. As a member of the National Science Honor Society and captain of the IHA dance team, Cara is an active student at IHA and can always be found helping others. Cara uses her gift of scholarship to contribute to and positively influence the IHA community, whether it is through National Honor Society tutoring or helping a classmate before an AP Calculus or AP Biology test. Cara demonstrates true scholarship through everything she does at IHA, and we thank her for everything she has offered to the school.

Shannon Gleba’17 is honored with the NHS award for Service. She is an inspiration to others at IHA and works very hard to always give back to her community. She dedicates so much of her time working on the executive board for the Christian Service Board, helping coordinate the IHA mission trip this past summer. She also does a large amount of service on her own. Shannon is a selfless person who reminds us all that giving back is essential in our lives.

Catherine O’Toole’17 is honored with the award for Leadership. Catherine is a role model in our IHA community. She reminds others to be determined students and to always be independent in our actions. As the president of the Student Council, Catherine works very hard to organize activities for our school, she encourages us to keep working hard, and she acts as the glue to hold our community together.
