Crochet Club Makes Dolls and Raises Money for TCF

Chris and Kendal Garvin, the treasurer and president of TCF, visited IHA on May 11, 2022 to receive the dolls as well as a check for $700. This money was raised from selling knitted and crocheted products our students have made over the past few years and sold during this year’s Parent/Teacher Conferences and just before Christmas.

Our IHA young women have been knitting since 1995 and, since 2009, have donated more than $20,000 to cancer research. According to Mrs. Suta, most of those funds have gone to childhood cancer, as “research into childhood cancer is terribly underfunded since it’s considered ‘rare.’ Sadly, when it comes to research, ‘rare’ means fewer than 200,000 people at the same time with the exact same cancer. Childhood cancer has about 16 primary cancers and about 100 subtypes, so that 200,000 number is not reached within the category.”
