Mrs. Jo-Ellen DeSanta

Mrs. Jo-Ellen DeSanta is the assistant principal of academics and instruction at IHA. Her undergraduate degrees are in English/speech and theater with a concentration in journalism, including a permanent New Jersey teaching K-12 certification in English and speech/theater from Montclair State University. She also received a M.Ed. degree from William Paterson University and an additional New Jersey certification as a K-12 Information Media Specialist.

Mrs. DeSanta has worked at Ridgewood Public, Scotch Plains-Fanwood Regional High School, and St. Elizabeth Interparochial School. She has served as a reading teacher, media specialist, Middle States coordinator, and vice-principal at St. Elizabeth Interparochial School; assistant to the vice-president of publishing and children’s book editor for Educational Reading Service, Troll Associates; editor-in-chief of the 7-12 Troll Book Club; freelance writer and editor for English literature textbooks with Macmillan Publishing; creator of internet-based folk literature and mythology CD-ROMS; and a tutor in the Biofeedback Center of Waldwick & Wyckoff under the direction of Dr. Sandra Segala.

Along with a fulfilling career in teaching, publishing, and educational administration, Mrs. DeSanta has three adult children. She has worked at IHA for ten years and loves the school's nurturing atmosphere that aims to take into consideration the whole student -- "her educational goals, her spiritual journey, and ultimately her development into a compassionate and skillful woman of the 21st century."
