College Counseling

IHA feels it is critical to have both a College Counseling Department and a Guidance Department as two separate resources available to our students, especially since the college process is so important to our families. Our College Counseling Department works with students from grades 9-12. With the ever-changing landscape of college admissions, it is important to ensure our students are well prepared and taking the process in stages. Each student is assigned both a college counselor and a school counselor for all four years. Below is just a sampling of the topics covered with students in each grade level. For a more detailed four-year plan, please click here.
9th Grade: Introduction to Scoir, Resume Building, Social Media Awareness, PSAT Testing
10th Grade: Scoir in Depth, Career Exploration, Beginning College Search, PSAT Testing
11th Grade: PSAT, SAT, and ACT Testing; Choosing the Right Fit College; Beginning College Essay; Obtaining College Recommendations; Refining College Interview Techniques
12th Grade: Continuing College Application Process, Finalizing College Essay, Navigating the Financial Aid Process
As IHA is a college preparatory school, it is inherent that the College Counseling staff helps to advise and prepare students for their future educational goals and plans. College counselors maintain ongoing relationships with higher education institutions and act as liaisons to representatives who visit IHA. They work with students for four years, helping them navigate college applications and the sometimes overwhelming admissions process. Please view our School Profile, which includes a list of the universities our students are attending.
