Guidance by Grade

The school counselors in the Guidance Department at Immaculate Heart Academy consistently use a developmental approach with their students. Through individual and group meetings, students of all grade levels are reminded of the importance of remaining balanced, regarding the academic, social, and emotional aspects of their lives.

Below is a breakdown of topics covered over the four-year tenure that a student attends IHA:

9th Grade
Explain Guidance services and resources, making an appointment with your school counselor, the use of the agenda, extracurricular activities, goal setting, reviewing academic progress, management and study skills tips, and exam preparation

10th Grade
Goal setting, review purpose of PSAT, exam prep, course selections, SAT/ACT/Subject Tests, Scoir, summer programs, social and personal decision-making process, career counseling, stress management skills, and helping to cope with anxiety

11th Grade

At IHA, parents are encouraged to regularly communicate with school counselors with any concerns regarding their daughters. School counselors are then able to counsel students regarding matters at home, at school, and beyond.

If at any time a student wishes to see her school counselor for an individual session, she must make an appointment. Counselors are allowed to see students during their study periods, before and after school, and during locker break. In case of an emergency, a student may see her counselor at any point in the day.
